Elder Recap

Had a great time at the Elder/Rezn/Lord Buffalo show. Even saw a handful of friends there. Apparently, I timed our arrival (took my son) just as Lord Buffalo took the stage.

I’ve seen Lord Buffalo labeled as a mud-folk band, but to me that translates into kind of a heavy-folk or stoner-folk band. Their songs had a moderate to slow tempo, which I dig. I have a couple of their albums, but I couldn’t tell you what songs they played were. Overall, they had a great set. Didn’t realize they did not have a bassist. Great vibe nonetheless.

Rezn was up next. I’ve seen their name online, but had never listened to their music. So, this was a first time experience for me and their music. Briefly spoke to my friend Dale before their set, and he was looking forward to it. Apparently his Mrs was aware of them, but didn’t share that knowledge with him until recently.

Rezn is a four piece band with one member playing electronics and saxophone. I’m not a huge fan of horns in this type of music, but it blended nicely into the compositions. I was definitely impressed with their set. It is heavy music that leans heavily into the psych and spacey sounds. I’d say there was a glimpse of Pink Floyd in their somewhere, but you could tell there were plenty of other influences.

This will be the 3rd time I’ve seen Elder, and they delivered as expected. I would mention which songs they played, but I’m horrible at remembering song names. I’ve followed them since their self titled release, so if you have then you know they went from a heavy stoner rock sound to more of a progressive-psych sound. Well, at least that’s how I hear it.

They played for just over an hour. Great energy, as well as great playing. I’m glad that they’ve garnered more of a following, as the venue (Tulips in Fort Worth) was pretty full. Fortunately not packed for my own personal space preferences, haha!

If you made it to the end, hopefully you enjoyed this little concert review. First time review for me, or at least posting about a show in this manner.
