Kind – Close Encounters

I recently ordered, received, and listened to Close Encounters by Kind. The following is my half-ass review.

Close Encounters by Kind

I’ve listened to this album about 4 plus times at this point. It took me a couple of listens to get into the album.

The first part of the album is reminiscent of 90s grunge. Well, at least to me. The first couple of tracks have a somewhat Soundgarden-ish vibe in the riffs. That, coupled with the dual vocals (a la Alice in Chains?) gives me that grunge impression.

The latter half of the album has more of a straight forward riff rock sound. Solid riffs that make me think of Queens of the Stone Age.

Black Yesterday and Pacino are the tracks that stood our most to me on the album. I’d recommend this album.

I dig the album cover. I haven’t checked out Kind prior to this release. I didn’t check out their last album when it came out because I didn’t like the album cover. That’s part of the whole album thing I like is the associated artwork. Maybe I’ll go back and give the older albums a listen.
