SME Kit

Here’s a quick run down on the drum kit I use for Stone Machine Electric. I have two drum kits, and this is one of them.

80s Slingerland

This kit I’ve roughly dated to 1980, plus or minus around that time. This applies to the toms and kick drum. I use the 14″ and 16″ toms, but I do have the 13″ and 18″ to go along with them. They were originally wrapped in chrome. Obviously, I took that off because it was in horrible condition and just stained the shells black. I dig fill all the unused holes. I love the way these sound. The wood is a mix of mahogany and poplar (if I remember correctly), so it has a warm sound and projects well.

The snare is a DW black nickel on brass. I switched to a metal snare a few years ago to help cut through the loudness of the guitar in this downtuned heavy band. Love it!

As far as cymbals, I use Paiste for the most part. I am currently using an old set of Zildjian hi-hats on this kit because my Paiste ones are old and I hammer the shit out of them to get over the volume issue previously mentioned.

I play single kick pedal. I’ve tried to do double bass, but I need a lot of practice. Plus, I’m not really that kind of drummer anyway.
