Haurun – Wilting Within

What? Another album review in less than a week? Weird, but not. Whatever. I’ve just been getting into the habit of listening to more new music versus listening to NPR and how the world is shitty and all that. Better for my anxiety and sanity I suppose. I get enough of that on social media anyway.

I’ve listened to Haurun’s album, Wilting Within, for about a week or so, and I can say that I’m a fan. Love the hypnotic sound of the vocals. Gives me a mix of Acid King and Blackwater Holylight vibes, not that it sounds like either. Well, there are a couple of instances where I get a strong Acid King “accent” or something like that.

Haurun- Wilting Within

Overall, the album has a haunting psychedelic fuzz sound. Stoner rock with some occult-ish sounding undertones. Love the song structures and vocal melodies. The riffs are fuzzy, and there is a great balance of chugging and dynamics. I’ll just say there is a good variety of guitar work, it’s not just crunchy riffs or slow chords. As you can tell, I’m still working on getting the right words out on these reviews.

Main point – Wilting Within is a great album, and from what I can tell is Haurun’s debut. If this is the first, I’ll be waiting on the next. If it’s not, then someone needs to point me in the right direction.
