Review: Palm Reader by High Desert Queen

I’ve been jamming this one since it came out.

Palm Reader by High Desert Queen

High Desert Queen’s Palm Reader was released on May 31 via Magnetic Eye Records. This one is a banger start to finish.

Ancient Aliens ramps up the riffs to open this album. Great start with some nice hooks. Following next is Death Perception. I dig the sultry female vocals on this one. Though I would have dug it more, had there been more dual vocals. That’s a personal preference, and it still rocks regardless. Probably my favorite track.

Head Honcho follows, and there is no stop to the fuzzy riffs High Desert Queen brings. This one, being the longest track, has more dynamics to it. So it hits hard, mellows out, and brings it back around.

Palm Reader, the title track, starts off with a familiar drum beat but twists it a bit to get the song moving. I dig the mix of singing versus semi-spoken lines in the song. Time Waster starts off similarly with a drum intro, but the guitar drops in hits a little thicker and heavier. I hear a bit of Soundgarden in this track. Well, that’s what my ears hear anyway.  Tuesday Night Blues and Solar Rain close out the album. These bring a twist of blues and heavy, with the latter bringing that epic style long play track closing the album.

If you dig stoner rock and thunderous riffs, then go check this group out!
