I recently listened to Philosophy of the World by The Shaggs several times.
I find this album to be what I call a “palette cleanser”. I listen to a lot of music, and most of the time, I will stay in one genre for a while. This album became one of those albums I can listen to that will clear out or reset my mind when it gets swamped with thoughts and other music. It is like a musical reset for my mind.
If you listen to the album, you’ll here it is not necessarily the best performed music. What it is is authentic. It’s campy, but it’s authentic.
Most of the time, I stumble across palette cleansing music. But, most of the time, it’s in a live music setting. It could almost be anything, as it may be more dictated by my mindset at the time.
