Trip to Houston

Since I had a show booked for October 19th in Houston, we made a trip out of it. Me and the Mrs. headed out Friday afternoon.

The first stop was the car wash, as her car needed it. Exciting start, I know. After that, it seemed like it took more than an hour just to get out of DFW. We made one stop at Buccee’s on the way to the hotel to get gas and grab a snack.

Once we got to the hotel and got checked in, it was time for dinner. We thought we’d just be lazy and get room service, but apparently, you can’t call to order. They had a scan code on the desk that brought up some internet based app. It had the whole menu but didn’t let you select any items. I called the front desk, and they told me I’d have to come down to the restaurant to order if the app didn’t work. Fucking lame. We went to Whataburger instead. That wasn’t much better since I ended up having to go inside to get our drive-through order. WTF.

Museum of Fine Art in Houston

We decided to go to the Museum of Fine Art on Saturday. It was fun walking around and looking at the pieces from all over the world and from different time periods. Had lots of fun making fun of the faces in some of the art and anything else that offered the opportunity for puns and inappropriate innuendos.

Art installation and us!

After that, we were hungry. We went to a tex-mex restaurant where I inadvertently ordered a fucking $58 appetizer since their lunch menu has a mini version that they don’tserve on weekends. It was enough food for 3 people. At least I had food for after the show.

We chilled at the hotel for a bit before heading over to White Swan for the show. Kris Smith opened with some hip hop and poetry. Renku Corporation followed that with a nonstop set of electronic music from what looked like a modular synthesizer setup. Shortly after, Sludgeman went on and played along with prerecorded tracks with his synthesizer.

TrailofGhosts

TrailofGhosts was next. She played a great set of electrodoom. Doomy sounding riffs with synthesizer and drum machine rhythms.

I closed out the show with my set of ambient and drone-ish songs. I think my set went well, but I’m not entirely happy with how the house sound went. The venue took the guitar sound via DI, and there was a bit of feedback on the effects through it and the house sound. My one effect that had a reversing texture to it was overpowering the main guitar instead of being in the background. Anyway, it was a fun night of music!

Here is my set via YouTube, so if you’re reading, please click through and subscribe!
