Show Recap: Boris and Starcrawler at Granada Theater

I hate when I show up to a show like this and forget my earplugs. Guess I’ll stand in the back of the lower section at Granada.

Boris: Amplifier Worship Service

Another weeknight show where I contemplate going out. So, I ordered a ticket the other day to make me go. Not wasting my money. I’ve been going through the “eh, I don’t want to go,” but I know I’ll be glad I did afterward.

Starcrawler

Starcrawler opened the show. They put on a good show and are great musicians. I just didn’t seem to smell what they were cooking. They are in that rock’n’roll vein, but not necessarily the one I dig. Didn’t help that they played a couple of coutry-esque songs. Most of their set was rock. Played for an hour. I was done in twenty minutes. That’s my take, but if you dig them, fine by me.

During the wait and between bands, I’ve heard St. Stephen more than enough times in one night. Guess that’s better than back to back Linkin Park.

Boris

Boris, the primary reason I was out on a work night. Their set was crushing, which was what I was looking forward to. Sludgey they way through on this one. Amplifier Worship is the focus on this tour since it is the 25th anniversary for it. I’ve only listened to it a few times, so more is in order after this.

Atsuo

In the middle of the set, Atsuo struck some hand bells/cymbals, and everyone got quiet as  it was just those ringing out. This went on for about two minutes. It’s probably my favorite part, everyone quiet listening to the sounds ring out as he slowly rang them before the thundering of the amps let loose again.

I’m glad I made it out again!
