Tokyo: Day 1

Bus Stop at Haneda

Day 1 in Tokyo, or so I’m calling it, is really a melding of two days. 13 hours in the air has altered time for me. You know, time zones and all that jazz. “Did you know the Soviet Union has 11 of them?” Or whatever that sample is Negativland used.

6,666 miles later, here I am. It didn’t take too long to get through customs, but it felt like I did it 3 times the way it is set up. Scan your index fingers, look at your passport, take your photo. Scan your index fingers, stamp your passport, take your customs info. Grab your luggage, show your passport, now you can go.

Then it’s time to grab a bus ticket to get me closer to my hotel. The bus ride is about 45 minutes from Haneda Airport to Shinjuku. From there, it’s a 20-minute walk. Don’t mind that at all after being in a plane for that long. I guess I got lucky, as I have seen other people post about having to lug bags up long flights of stairs. I somehow avoided that, for now. We still have to travel to Kyoto in a few days, so it still has time to happen.

Shinjuku

The hotel room is just enough for me. An efficient layout. Check in was easy, and all the staff have been helpful. Bathroom is tight, but that’s not what I’m here for, ha!

Finally, I met up with Mr.Horn and we walked the area around Shinjuku and chatted, and then grabbed a bite at a nearby restaurant.
