Review: Matt Berry – Heard Noises

Matt Berry – Heard Noises

I’m a Matt Berry fan, so when I saw this come through my Instagram feed, and then the Mrs. sending it to me, I had to check it out.

In an odd way, I guess, it sounded like I would have expected. I base this solely on the idea of the vibe he puts off in all of his characters. It has that 1960s/70s psychedelic music meets TV show theme sound.

It’s a very cohesive album. The album starts strong with Why On Fire? and seamlessly flows front to back. It’s hard not to listen to the whole thing, or restart if you have to pause for more than 5 minutes.

Why On Fire?, Wedding Photo Stranger, and Canada Dry are standout tracks, but I prefer to play the whole damn thing. I haven’t delved into the actual lyrics of Canada Dry, but it makes me thirst for ginger ale.

Looking at his Bandcamp page, apparently he’s been releasing music for a few years now, starting with a TV theme song cover album. Makes sense.
