Slave to the Algorithm

At least, that’s what it feels like. Who am I kidding? That’s what it is.

Whatever

You can’t be online without being subject to it. You can’t share or promote your music or art without being filtered by it. You can’t even “google” anything without some sort of hidden “AGENDA” being superimposed into the results. Yeah, I’m being dramatic, but I’m not wrong either.

For years, I’ve been using all the apps to help promote my bands and help drive or maintain some sort of presence for the bands. A lot of the time, it is only me doing it, but that’s another trip to take. Has it become futile to even keep trying? The more I try, the more things stay the same, or so they say. And, it seems true. I’ve always felt that if you don’t have some sort of “connections,” then you’ll get nowhere. That’s where I am.

Would I still have the same outcome if I only post about shit when it’s convenient or leisurely for me? Or maybe not post at all and just reach out directly to friends and fans in some other, “old-fashioned” kind of way?

Maybe that’s an experiment I should try.
