Serial Hawk is one of the few bands I dig that do screaming style vocals I dig. It’s not harsh, and it fits the music perfectly.

Psychic Pain starts off with the bleak and ambient track, Pulsate, that flows right into the heaviness of Raw Wound. On display is one of the things I love about Serial Hawk. The calm and patient thud and thunder they bring. The track is steady and moderately paced, and it never feels rushed. Just repetitive thunder and feel. It locks you in.
A subdued whirling ambient drone opens Drift Away, leading into somber melody. The heaviness soon follows and maintains that somber feeling. I dig the dynamics of this song.
The title track, Psychic Pain, brings back that heavy trod and yelling vocals. You can feel the pain in this one. And, they bring a but noise in. I’m down for that, along with it melting into the calm interlude that eventually brings the crushing back.
Caged closes out the album. A great end cap to the album culminating into a blanket of noise as the pain being expressed wants to fade to an end but abruptly stops. Is it over? The pain lingers, so it’s time to listen again.
