Review: Bloodhorse- A Malign Star

A new to me band, Bloodhorse, is a great listen if you’re looking for that blend of heavy 90s grunge with a bit of metal.

Bloodhorse- A Malign Star

A Malign Star opens with the song Saboteur. The guitar work on this one reminds me of Soundgarden and how they would often add an odd count to the riff in certain spots of a song. The title track that follows reflects a similar pattern.

Shallowness starts off a bit noisy before laying down the riff. It then goes into a more metal plod and has a nice heaviness. The Somnambulist carries on that heaviness but slows it down. Great ghostly vocals carry this one, very cool!

House of Burden takes off soon after, bringing more of a chugging riff out with those 80s sound metal riff fills, and then breaks it down. Nice! And Illumination reigns it in starting off distorted and mellow. Doesn’t take too long before the heaviness is cranked up to change the mood. A great instrumental to close out the album.

Bloodhorse covers a lot of sonic territory in only 28 minutes. Recommended!
