Sometimes, when I’m recording new songs, it is on the fly. It usually starts with guitar or keyboard, and then I’ll go back and add other instrumentation and vocals. The riff arrangements may not always be ideal, but I like the end result.

Now, as I’m trying to work up a set for a live performance, it becomes problematic. Especially since I am adding in a backing drum track or machine. This means I have to relearn the song slightly differently so I can have an arrangement I can follow.
But, this can also be a good thing. I can adjust the length of the songs in a way that flows and stays in an alloted time. I can also tweak the tempo if I so choose. May even make it easier to sync to a background video.
Maybe it’s not a problem.
