Stage Presence

This is one area I feel like I have always lacked. All the great acts, big or small or local, have something to offer or have a way of controlling the stage and making the show entertaining. How that is done varies, and it can be as simple as an outfit, musical prowess, stage show, or just interaction with the audience.

Stage presence? Eh.

I’m too introverted and afraid to look like an idiot to try anything. I don’t want to be that guy putting on leather pants and dying my hair black, trying to look all “rock’n’roll” or whatever. Whatever I do, I want it to be relative to the music or reinforce the theme or concept of what is in it. I don’t want to slap on a cliche costume.

I have ideas now and then. I usually draw inspiration from shows I’ve seen and try to figure out how to apply it to what I am doing. Maybe I’ll incorporate it. Maybe I won’t. Maybe I’ll actually try and talk to the audience and stop hiding behind instruments.  I’d rather be doing music than anything else, so why be a wimp about it?
