Castle Rat

When I first saw stuff online about Castle Rat, I was a bit skeptical. Mainly because I’m a bit wary of gimmicky bands. Kiss is a band I’ve never cared for, even after hearing their music. Doesn’t appeal to me.

Seeing scantily clad women on social media is nothing new and isn’t a driver for me when it comes to music. So, I ignored it at first. A few months ago, they did come through town. I thought about going, but it was sold out. Maybe there is something there.

A month ago, I decided to listen to their album Into the Realm. It is a great album. They have the whole stoner/doom thing going, and it is not a hack job. Not to say I was expecting that, it’s that there have been a few bands that do the shtick thing and have hacked. Someone seems to want to try a wizard thing here and there, and it ends up being hokey or they don’t commit to it.

I’ve listened to Into the Realm a few times now. Great songs, guitar work, and vocals. Apparently, they have a new album coming in September. I’ll check that out, too.
