I’ve never heard of Witchrider until today. I went cruising The Obelisk looking for something new to listen to. Apparently, this EP dropped today.

Metamorph opens with the song Used to be a King. It starts off sounding somewhat Butthole Surfers-ish with an out of tune sounding guitar, morphs into almost The Strokes before blending those into Queens of the Stone Age vibe. Great transition!
Sound of the Presidents holds that vibe and turns it into more of a dirge. Hold My Mind takes the EP into a straight rock groove with a little mellowness. The end vocals are pretty catchy.
Safe to Say drives back into that intro song sound. A bit more drum driven, a bit more falsetto vocals. Wake Me Up, out of nowhere, busts out this NIN vibe at the start of the song. Pretty stark change, but it’s definitely a great flow into the rest of the song. Alive flirts with that sound a bit as it brings in the acoustic guitar. I dig the mix of acoustic guitar and whatever else that springy sound is, be it guitar or synth.
There’s a lot going on in this short album. It’s worth more listens.
