Units & Time

What follows will probably sound like rambling. I’m about to “mind dump” all over the place, and it may come across as dumb, weird, or completely whack. Whatever.

A blip on the screen

Why isn’t there like a metric type system for time? Maybe there is, and I haven’t heard of it or even Googled it.

365 days is just an odd denominator. Take that down to 12 months, or 52 weeks. Or just take a day and break it into 24 hours, then 60 minutes, and further into 60 seconds. But, then, we break that into milliseconds? Can we rationalize a system that works universally and is based on a metric type system? Why do we continue to base time relative to this shit-ball planet? It’s possible there is more intelligent life out there besides us.

There needs to be some unit of time that envelopes the expanse of the universe. 100 seconds to 1 minute, 100 minutes to 1 hour, 100 hours to 1 day, 100 days to 1 month, 100 months to 1 year, 100 years to 1 century (win!). Fuck you, decades.

BCE, CE, BC, AD – you can expire, and we should find as true a Zero date as possible. We won’t get it exact, but we can do better than this shit.

Can this system be established? Where/when do we start?
