I’ve gotten to a point where I’m not interested in guitar noodling type music. Excessive guitar solos, to me, seem boring. Part of the reason I skipped the Earthless show in Denton this weekend. I’ve seen them twice, and they’re great, but the last time I saw them it got to a point where I was waiting on the show to end. Fortunately, this Marmalade Knives album is not that.

Paradigm Lost is the latest offering from Marmalade Knives on Electric Valley records. This album is an instrumental journey. A heavy dose of psychedelia with a good helping of Krautrock feel and a jazz-like backbone.
The guitars tell a story, or at least insinuates some sort of message beyond just notes. The rhythms and melodies are weaved together nicely, and the soloing in the songs is well placed and complimentary to those. No one thing overwhelms the music.
The drums and bass hold down the songs and maintain that sense of cohesion. They meld with guitar and push the songs along through the changes. Tasty fills and transitions.
If you’re looking for a psych journey, here you go!
