Starting off with the sound of wind a lullaby-ish murmur of vocals, Brandung by Coltaine is a hypnotic post metal journey.

From Karlsruhe, Germany, this four piece band creates a dark but mellow atmosphere in which this album lives. The album cover hints perfectly at what you’re going to hear. Overcast melodies haunt coastline that composes the structures of each track. Your vision is limited to what you can hear, but if you listen closely, there is more to see.
The vocals are steady and well placed, but in some moments crash upon the shore to remind you that there is still power below the surface. The sound of the songs is moody, dark, and dirge-ish, and that is a reflection of the dark, jagged cliffs being formed by those waves of sound over the years.
Give Coltaine a listen. Worth it, especially on these upcoming cooler fall days. If only it was cooler right now. Stupid Texas.
