During Stone Machine Electric rehearsal yesterday, it dawned on me that I have probably caused my own issues.

When I was in the hospital for a pneumothorax last year, I developed a nerve issue in the top of my thigh from sitting in the hospital bed. I don’t remember how long it took to resolve, but it may have been a couple of weeks.
For at least month now, I’ve had a similar nerve issue again. The same area feels numb and tingles sometimes. And, sometimes it gets uncomfortable. I wouldn’t say painful, but close. Yesterday during rehearsal, I noticed that where my left hand lands when hitting the snare was always on my leg. It happens that specific location on my leg is also kind of the apex of the nerve issue.
It’s always been that way from as far back as I can tell. I’d even typically have a bruise there after shows, especially since I’m going full throttle for those. So, mid set practice I adjusted my snare stand to raise it a bit and flatten it out some. After 20 plus years, I’m going to have to retrain my left arm on how to hit the snare. I’ll probably be doing a lot of rim shots in these upcoming shows. That’s better than further damaging myself.
