Review: That Fair and Warlike Form // Return to Dust by Khan

I’ve been sort of recovering from the crappy first half of November. So, here’s a new review. Khan is a three-piece band from Melbourne, Australia, and here are my thoughts on their recent album, That Fair and Warlike Form // Return to Dust.

That Fair and Warlike Form // Return to Dust by Khan

This release contains two expansive tracks. The pace and transitions in these don’t read that way. At first listen, and the fact that I’m bad at reading the track list before listening, you don’t realize that there are only the two tracks. The flow makes you think you’re listening to more than one song. Like one of those albums where the songs bleed into each other. I’m sure they could have broken it up if they wanted, but no complaints either way.

I dig the ethereal-esque vocals. They fit well with the psychedelic-stoner vibe. That’s probably what helps break up the songs, the back and forth between heavy instrumental passages and lyrical content. The guitar solo passages are also on point. I’ve said before that I’m not a fan of excessive soloing, so it’s good for me when they are done tastefully as they are on this album.

I’ve already made my top albums list for 2025. Not sure if this will replace anything at this point, but it will get some more play. Really, anything after my top 10 or so could be flexed around. Regardless, you should give this one a listen.
