Review: Detritus by Ox Combine

Local metalheads Ox Combine put an album out less than a month ago. Maybe more of an EP for 5 tracks around 15 minutes.

Detritus by Ox Combine

Wolf kicks off the album. Heavy on the metal, and giving me those D.R.I. vibes. Nice thrashy way to get rolling. Giants dials back on the intensity. Not sure if it is spoken word or a sound bite in the beginning, but good way to start. The vocals are gritty, and the riff is slower on this one, but in that classic or 80s metal way.

Harbinger carries over the tempo, and before I know it, the song is over and Seance is starting up and spending right along. Season starts off similarly to Giants with some spoken word before going into full metal mode.

With the vocals and the song structures, it makes me think if old Venom or Celtic Frost, though I can’t say I’ve listened to either in a while. The recording itself gives off that old 80s metal sound. Mildly retro, and a great listen.
