The Torture Never Stops

Actually, it’s not torture, but I do like using that Zappa reference when I get a chance. This is more of a quick appreciation post.

Music, yay!

I subscribe to a lot of bands via Bandcamp, and obviously follow my fair share on the social medias. I’m trying to avoid the latter as much as possible (another story, but you know), and oftentimes the onslaught of Bandcamp driven emails can be a bit much, especially around Bandcamp Fridays.

Since I’m not good at being on the cusp of all the cool stuff coming out, I usually rely on referrals, but mostly go to The Obelisk and Doom Charts to find what’s coming up. In Doom Charts case, it’s more about what grabbed the contributors attention for the month that just ended.

JJ always has the news and great words on the latest heavy music at The Obelisk. I’ve been going there since the stoner-rock-dot-com days. That’s if I’m remembering that correctly. I had sent him the Stone Machine Electric demo Awash in Feedback to review. Damn, 2010 seems like the other day. I’m getting fucking old, ug.

As soon as the Doom Charts started showing up, I found myself going through them to find new things to listen to. And if course, I’m submitting my band’s music to them. It’s also a good place to find other great blogs to pester directly with my music, and to see what music they are promoting through reviews, like Doomed & Stoned, More Fuzz, and Stoner HiVe. There are a lot of contributors.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the music. And to those who send me music directly. It’s happened a few times, so that is nice. Not sure I want to ask folks to directly send me music like other blogs. Half the fun is finding the music, so I’m not keen on opening those flood gates.
