Review: Being Here by Turtle Skull

I may have mentioned I use other blogs to siphon music recommendations from. This is one of those, and I’m about half a year late jumping on this bus.

Being Here by Turtle Skull

The album cover is a great reflection of the music on this album. Colorful, dark, layered, and rich. The beginning of the title and intro track Being Here gives off the impression this might be a noise driven album. A little misleading, but a nice ear tease (at least for me) that brings you in. Being Here is a heavy psychedelic album with moments that make me think of Krautrock.

Turtle Skull deliver on the vocal harmonies. Perfectly integrated into the musical landscape they provide. Gives me Tweak Bird flashbacks, and makes me want to pull out Undercover Crops.

There’s a nice balance between the guitar and the synthesizer. Even when the synth is just droning on, it goes together so well. And, the bass fills in and hammers in the depth of sound. The drums never let go of the pocket, and know when to let loose and groove.

More than worth the listen. At least 10 to appreciate the full flavor, and likely more for the satisfaction. Too bad I was late for this train.
