Review: Get Well Soon by Lo-Pan

I have to admit that I haven’t kept up with Lo-Pan. Salvador was the last album I heard, so there’s a backlog. But hey, I didn’t totally forget about them.

Get Well Soon by Lo-Pan

Lo-Pan kind of scratches that 90s alternative/grunge sound for me. It does it in that Soundgarden sense. Heavy, metal-like riffs without feeling like metal, but could be in a metal playlist. Vocals that are unique and well delivered. Soundgarden is one of those bands for me that if you make me think of them, then you know I dig what is going on.

The span between albums for Lo-Pan speaks to how well written and thought out the music and lyrics are. This tells me I need to go listen to the ones I missed. Not a lull in the album. It demands your attention, and it rewards you for it.

Though Lo-Pan has a definite sound, the riffs and music are varied and not formulaic. In stoner rock, it can get easy to get stuck in a riff-rut. But that doesn’t happen on Get Well Soon. Nothing but fresh riffs, solid vocals, and a locked in rhythm section.
