Stone Machine Electric at Bear’s

We had a show over in Shreveport this weekend. The folks in Good Spirits hooked us up at Bear’s, and they lined out the bill along with Whether.

Stone Machine Electric

I left the house around noon to make the 3-hour drive over to Shreveport. That allowed me time for pit stops and to get to the hotel after the 3pm check-in. Of course, I still had to wait about 10 minutes after I got there so they could make sure the room was ready, pffff! WC arrived a little later. We chatted a little, and then headed over to the venue to secure parking.

Not much of a staging area at Bear’s, but that’s the norm for venues like this. I drug out the merch and set it up. Then we waited for show time.

Whether

Whether opened the show. They are on the metal/sludge spectrum. Doomy sounding riffs with some double-bass drumming hammering away in some spots. Gutteral, growlish vocals to melodic singing, covering the gambit. I dug their set, though I heard half of it from outside as I setup my kit for our set.

From the throne

We hit the stage, and ran through a 35-minute set. Bear’s had a great crowd response, and I’m not used to that. They even asked for another song, but we did the professional thing and got off so Good Spirits could close the show. That, and the sound guy had already cued up some music, so not gonna play that game.

Good Spirits

Good Spirits ended the night. They brought on their Pink Floyd meets King Buffalo sound. They have that slow but captivating pace to their music. Killer set.

Then it was time to sell some merch, pack up, and hit the hotel. Fun night, even though reflux heartburn was trying to burn me from the inside out, ug.
