Review: Hear by Temptress

Well, the yearly winter storm is upon us here in DFW. Just did a quick errand across the “frozen, white wasteland “. Doesn’t appear that bad, at least for now. But back to the subject matter, I’ve been listening to my friends in Temptress’ latest album, Hear. I’m a few listens in at this point. Goods delivered!

Hear by Temptress

Their previous album, See, came off to me as more in the stoner metal realm. Maybe I wasn’t listening attentive enough then, but Hear is more than that. Post-rock is ever present, metal is hard to miss, thumps of hard-core, and keen rock sensibilities.

INTO does what it says. It brings you into the album with the post-rock ambience as it drives you into Narrows. The movement from song to song in Hear breathes intention and takes you through the album smoothly. The near 40-minute trek seems short once you get to Out of, and you’ll want to go back for another round.

As usual, I’m a sucker for the combination of male/female vocals. I love the texture of it. The harmonized female vocals are just as impressive and deliver on character as well. It just boils down to great songwriting and musical intuition. Writing and performing for the song, and letting that creative energy flow out naturally.

Hopefully my rambling is as coherent as this album. Highly recommend, so go listen
