Since the Stone Machine Electric “tour” plans got canceled by the winter weather here in DFW, I spent the weekend watching TV with the Mrs and recording some music.
A week ago, I had a few “supplies” show up for the studio. Added a matching ribbon microphone for the drum overheads, and a better stand for the snare mic. I got those implemented, and spent some time adjusting to get the sound I wanted.
Once I got everything set up, I turned off the heater in the studio and got to tracking. I spent about 7 to 8 hours over the weekend getting drums tracked for 7 Headeraser songs. Hopefully Mr Cook will dig these and work his magic on his end. A few of the songs also had some drum pad tracks I went back and added.
I still need to add or redo vocals on a bunch of these. Some of the original takes are OK, but could be done better. I plan to get to that this weekend, or maybe during the week if I’m up to it. Depends on how my throat feels (stupid reflux relapse) and figuring out which microphone I want to use. I may experiment a little with that.
There is one song I have that is half-written. I finalized the lyrics for it. It looks like I’ll need to re-record the electric piano part to fit it. The last half of the song is where I’m stuck a bit. I have a part for it, but it doesn’t sound fluid enough. I think I have a riff for it recorded on my phone, if I can find it.
Maybe we’ll actually get a Headeraser album out this year.
