Review: Cope by Liquid Pennies

I know I’ve mentioned following the Doom Charts to get new music suggestions. I’ve taken that a step farther and follow a few of the contributors on social media. I promise not in a stalker way. It let’s me see a larger sampling and variety of musical tastes. I pulled this one from Rich’s January list.

Cope by Liquid Pennies

Liquid Pennies doesn’t fall into the stoner doom category, at least to my ears. And that is why I appreciate Rich’s list, it doesn’t seem limited to strictly that genre. Liquid Pennies sounds for like a grunge-folk or post-grunge (is that a thing?) band with a dash of electronics thrown in.

And that is what you find on Cope. This 3-song EP covers those bases. 4-song EP if you count the single edit for the song Cope. Cope is that grungy but slightly folkish track. Floating Mote is a wash of sound, bringing out their experimental side. The drums randomly seeming to come in and out, and not bringing you any rhythmic resolution. Long Fuse jumps into the electronics realm. It gives me those Zombi-esque vibes, which of course I dig.

I know it’s an EP, but I still wish it was longer. They do have a back catalog of other releases, so at least there’s that.
