I recently discovered the music of Motsus, a three-piece instrumental outfit from Belgium. I may have said this before, but it seems like all the good heavy stuff I like is mostly not from the United States. Oh well, there’s nothing good here anyway, if you know what I mean.

Intro (El Toro de Fuego) opens the album. An acoustic guitar opener with a Spanish feel, with some folks talking in the background. It kind of sets a theme for the album in a very subtle way. Maybe it’s just me.
The rest of the tracks are slow and heavy burners. All of them are orchestrated instrumentals. They’re not just riffs repeated over and over (nothing against that, I do it), but well thought movements. Motion is continuous, and there’s never time for a dull moment. Once the ride begins, there’s no stopping until the journey is over. It may slow down and pummel you a bit, but that is expected on this type of musical ride.
Give them a listen, I’ll do it a few more times.
