Music Listens Lately

This post is not what I would call a review, just more about what I’ve been listening to lately that’s not newly released. I’ve decided to just do reviews on new music, or at least releases in the past few months or so.

As I think I’ve mentioned previously, I’ve been listening to more music and less NPR to help with the insanity and anxiety this world seems to be shitting. A couple of recent CD purchases from CD Warehouse (local second hand music store) are The Cars self-titled album, and Mutoid Man’s War Moans. As you can probably tell, these are not on the same bandwidth.

I’m old enough to recall The Cars for the video for You Might Think, though that is not on the self-titled album. Just telling you I’m apparently old, especially if you ask the Mrs. Never had any issue with The Cars, but also never acquired any of their records until now.

The Cars – The Cars

Surprised that most of the songs were ones I had heard before. I mainly bought this album for Bye Bye Love. I’ve been seeing the video performance of it popping up in my media feeds. I always pictured Ric Ocasek as the lead singer until this video popped up. Have to say I prefer Benjamin Orr’s vocals now that I realized this.

As far as deep cuts, most if the other tracks are great. I really dig the first minute of All Mixed Up, but then it takes a turn and looses me.

Mutoid Man – War Moans

Mutoid Man’s War Moans is a pretty good album. It was released in 2017. I just started listening to it yesterday. Start of the album, at least the first 30 seconds, were a little iffy for me. But once it got going, it was going. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I bought the album, just seemed like folks dug it when it came out. To me, it is a metal album with some nuances. The album has an energetic vibe, and the tracks come across as a good mixture of metal songwriting. Nothing seemed formulaic in the approach. Maybe a more metal version of The Melvins with a bit more, not much, melodic vocals.

If you collect music, hell, even just listen on this age of streaming, add these in and enjoy.
