Detox

Nothing seems real anymore. Is there true intent, or maybe I mean genuine intent, in anything, anymore?

What’s that?

Social media used to be somewhat enjoyable and was a way decompress from work or whatever else may be a stress inducer. It wasn’t just another place to be bombarded with ads and stupid opinions.

Now, it’s just Saturday afternoon TV circa 1988. There’s something on it, but nothing is worth the time. You’d be out doing something else. Yeah, I sound like a crotchety old fucker. It’s especially odd for me to be thinking things “used to be better back in my day.” I’m a big proponent of “things change, always, “and I make the change work.

But when things are engineered to steal your attention, I’m just not down with that. You get sprinkled with things you want to see, peppered with things that are trying to generate “outrage,” all while trying to be sold some shitty contraption for something you talked to a friend or partner about that your phone was listening in on.

I’m in a situation where I’m kind of done with social media. But I also have the conundrum of running accounts for my musical outputs – Slow Draw, Headeraser, and Stone Machine Electric. Social media is essentially the music marketing platform. At least for all the shitty little bands like mine. It’s not like I have the money to pay someone to do it. But at the same time, am I contributing to the whole issue? Guess I could transition to doing things via an email list. Well, I am getting old, and who really cares that much about my music besides me and the band?

I’m working on ways to lessen my time on social media. I’m not sure how successful that will be, though I will try. The search for funny memes and dumb videos may be my downfall.

We’re doomed…
