Scope

Sometimes I wonder if I should post about my health issues because it is no one’s business anyway. But, it is interesting to me, and at least I’m writing it down somewhere for future reference.

Poof!

I was recently diagnosed with acid reflux after being referred to an ENT by my doctor. I had a sore throat and blood in my spit. Very little, and also differently from when I had my pulmonary embolism. He prescribed some medication and put me on vocal rest since I had a nodule on my vocal cords from it. He also referred me to a GI doctor to take a look further into my stomach to verify there was nothing in there that needs addressing.

Last week, the GI doctor performed and endoscopy on me. It went smoothly, and he took a biopsy during that. Recovery was simple enough. I didn’t have heartburn from acid reflux, but I did after the procedure. It is gone now. I have a follow-up in 2 weeks.

After finding out I have acid reflux, my diet and eating habits have changed. It has helped, and I have lost close to 20 pounds. The change into eating wasn’t really difficult for me, but I could see how it could be for others. This past week I did slightly backslide. My throat has gotten a little irritated due to the endoscopy, but also because I probably had more beer this past week than I should have. If anything has been hard for me, it is drinking mostly water all the time. I’ll get used to it.
