I went to the Sunn O))) show last night at Trees in Dallas with Mr. Cook. It was a great auditory experience.
Their new album came out the same day, and I joined the Bandcamp listening party the day before. It is great, at least to my ears. The show was even better.
There was no opener. They did start the show with 10-15 minutes of a recording of a Venom performance where they played all the stage banter between songs, but cut out all the songs except for about 2-3 seconds of it. Interesting start, and kind of funny.
The volume was intense, and I questioned whether or not I actually had my ear plugs in. This is the type of show you can also feel. It rumbled through my chest and body. At certain points, it felt like it was vibrating my vocal cords. Slow, methodic guitar riffs were continuous for the solid 80+ minute set. 2/3rds the way through I had to step outside as it was getting warm for me. Came back in side stage to finish experiencing the show. Not going to complain at all that it was over by 10pm. Old man finishing time!
