Review: Angine de Poitrine Vol. II

I don’t care if this seems like a gimmic or fad. I dig the music Angine de Poitrine are putting out.

Angine de Poitrine- Vol. II

I’m sure like most of you, you saw the KEXP video of Angine de Poitrine as your first experience. That’s how I came across them. I’ve watched the video a couple of times. Definitely entrancing.

Vol. II was released last week. I’ve been listening to it and the latest from Sunn O))). Now I’ve got “microdronal” stuck in my head. Anyway, Vol. II doesn’t stray much from the KEXP video as far as what they’ve laid down. I mean, that’s what I wanted.

I see most folks describing them as microtonal math rock. I’ve mentioned it online, but they seem like microtonal Krautrock to me. I think the rhythm or beat they create is more akin to Krautrock. I get the guitar work and time signatures may put it in the math rock camp, but not for me. Full disclosure, I’m not sure I’ve listened to math rock. Pfff.

Anyway, both Volumes from Angine de Poitrine are worth the time listening to. Polka dots or not.
