My friend Derek from Good Spirits hooked me up with a ticket for this show, so many thanks to him! I’ve not seen either live, so this marks off a couple of bands from the list. Nit that I really have a list.
The “waiting” music was a bunch of 70s rock. Meh. I could have gone the rest of my life without hearing Freebird, but, whatever.
Spoon Benders from Portland, Oregon opened the show. Great start! They put on a heavy garage rock style set. It gave me impressions of Sonic Youth, but less noise and more psychedelic. Good, strong energy on stage.
A quick changeover, and Red Fang was soon raging the stage. I’ve wanted to catch them for years, so I’m glad that I did. They played all the things I wanted to hear, and obviously, the ended with Prehistoric Dog. They even had the pit going, which I don’t see a lot of in the shows that I go to.
Luckily, I was able to get through the merch line between sets and find my friends to catch The Sword take the stage. They plowed through their catalog bookending the set with their more stoner metal material and infilling the middle with the pseudo country and 70s rock style songs.
Thanks again to Derek for the ticket, and it was great to jam to show with him, Erick, and Diana!
