I preordered this album soon after I received the email from Bandcamp notifying me that Dave Lombardo had a new album coming out. It just released on October 2nd, and my order showed up that day. Coordination!
Released under Lustmord Lombardo, The Pulse of Atoms is a dark ambient experience. Moving across the seven tracks, you won’t notice a distinct change from one to the next. It is brilliantly seamless. Even with Mr. Lombardo behind the kit, it maintains that ambient sound. The drum sound and mix is skillfully held back in such a way that the percussion melds into that dark ambient setting. He knows where and when to bring his instrumentation.
This album does give off that horror movie soundtrack vibe. A good musical start to October, and an appropriately arriving one at that.
