This time, it’s a Thursday night show. Will I get up in time Friday morning for my 8am meeting? Probably, as I am sure I will get up at 5am like normal. I’ll likely be posting this after that happens.

The Body and Big|Brave are in town on their tour. I’ve been wanting to see Big|Brave for years, and I’m finally able to. Part of me wants to see them with a drummer, a la A Gaze Among Them, but I’m definitely down for the 3-piece aural onslaught sans drums. I’ve heard the name The Body, but nothing more than that until now. Same with Nicole Marxen, new to me.

Nicole Marxen opened up the show. Great slow-to-medium paced music. The drummer held it down, and I dug the minimalist approach. The sound gave me a post rock meets doom vibe, with a hint of industrial trying to be heard. I dig the sound.

And, the main reason for the ticket purchase, Big|Brave! Front to back, a total auditory hypnosis. To my ears, a blend of post rock slowed down to a doom-trodden pace mixed with noisey, feedback controlled chaos. And the sound mix was perfect. Just loud enough to feel, and low enough to hear the passion in the vocal delivery. I didn’t miss the drums at all, and was disappointed when it was over.
As shown above, I did capture a bit of their start. Phone audio doesn’t do them justice.

The Body closed out the show. A two-piece experimental/industrial metal. Kind of sounded like a mix of hardcore, sludge, doom, and noise. Cavernous, screeching vocals with downtuned guitar. Aggressive, bleak, and noisy.
Fun night, and now on to the next things in life.
